April 4-6
Palmetto Alpaca Classic
Clemson, SC
Sue was show superintendent for this show and was very impressed with the Alpaca Small Farm Network for putting on a very well run show. It was an opportunity well worth the eight hour drive to South Carolina and she looks forward to next year's show!

April 25-27
5th Annual Shearing Days at Nottingham Hollow
This year all of our alpacas were shorn here on the farm. We are up to 15 now and it just no longer makes sense to travel off-farm for shearing. Our friend Dawn Dolpp of Mada Vemi Alpacas did our shearing with the help of a few of our fellow breeders.
We are planning now for next year when we will open the farm to the general public and incorporate some of the things that we do with the fiber as it comes off the alpacas. Our 2009 shearing is scheduled for April 28, with Fall Line Fiber & Shearing doing the shearing honors!

May 17 - June 15
The Virginia Renaissance Faire
www.varf.org
Lake Anna Winery
Spotsylvania, Virginia
The Virginia Renaissance Faire is held on weekends beginning on Saturday, May 17 and closing on Sunday, June 15. Nottingham Hollow joins several other farms during the course of the faire where we will display our selected alpacas and promote alpaca fiber, and explaining how alpacas came to be in Renaissance England...
Alpacas in the Renaissance you ask? Click here for "our" story!
"Discover the magic in the age of chivalry and romance as the Renaissance comes to life once again in Virginia. The Queen's Progress offers the rare opportunity to escape from your daily routine and step back in time by visiting a charming English country village. Frolic among nobles and fools, merchants and peasants, minstrels and dancers. Join artisans, craftspeople, and food merchants in a day overflowing with fun and history.
"Poppet's Glade offers a special world for children. Each afternoon, every child can receive a royal greeting after the Queen arrives into the village. There are arts and crafts, puppetry, and participation in interactive fairy tales for the thrill of being on stage. Children will love playing historical games such as 9 Man's Morris and Pell Mell. Or, they can even be knighted by Queen Elizabeth herself!"

July 26
VAOBA Annual Membership Meeting
This is the date of the Annual Membership meeting of the Virginia Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association. It is a rather special one for Sue as she will be stepping down as President and into the position of Past President for the association. VAOBA has AOBA board member David Barboza on the agenda. He will speak to our membership on AOBA's plans for a Youth Division as well as what we can do within our state for our Virginia youth. David will also speak of the benefits of AOBA membership and will entertain questions from our members.

October 17-19
3rd Annual VAOBA Alpaca Expo Halter & Fleece Show
The Virginia Horse Center
Lexington, Virginia
Sue will be superintending the 3rd Annual VAOBA Alpaca Expo Halter Show. This show has grown tremendously in a few short years and is looking to be the best yet! We are looking forward to it very much and Chuck will be bringing a few of our alpacas that we think are something special! Keeping their identities a surprise!
