The Virginia Classic
www.llamalife.com/classic/
Lexington, Virginia
This year's Virginia Classic is now over - The Sheriff and Friar Tuck had competition that was pretty stiff and didn't place in their first show. We are happy to report that they were both well behaved in the show ring! Their judge was looking more towards density as being the better fiber trait - both these boys have wonderfully soft and fine fiber. Maybe their next judge will appreciate fineness! Robin Hood did earn a second place in his class.

Sue entered three items in the Handmade Derby. A crocheted poncho earned a first place in that class; a child's hat took second in its class and an argyll scarf earned second in its class. Competition is getting stiffer in the fiber arts as well - and that is a good thing!

Alpacas in the Renaissance you ask? Click here for "our" story!
"Discover the magic in the age of chivalry and romance as the Renaissance comes to life once again in Virginia. The Queen's Progress offers the rare opportunity to escape from your daily routine and step back in time by visiting a charming English country village. Frolic among nobles and fools, merchants and peasants, minstrels and dancers. Join artisans, craftspeople, and food merchants in a day overflowing with fun and history.
"Norrey's Garden offers a special world for children. Each afternoon, every child can receive a royal greeting after the Queen arrives into the village. There are arts and crafts, puppetry, and participation in interactive fairy tales for the thrill of being on stage. Children will love playing historical games such as 9 Man's Morris and Pell Mell. Or, they can even be knighted by Queen Elizabeth herself!"

August 2006
The Caroline County Fair
Ladysmith, Virginia
The Caroline County fair was a well-attended event. It was decided to eliminate the alpaca show due to the intense heat and humidity that August brings to this area. The small show was very well received in 2005 but was much too hard on our alpacas and exhibitors. We had an alpaca exhibit this year with only two alpacas displayed. Many people came specifically to see the alpaca exhibit so we are calling it a success!

The VAOBA Alpaca Expo is scheduled to be held at the Deep Run Hunt Club showground, which is conveniently and centrally located near Richmond, Virginia, just 3 miles off the I-64 exit and about 7 miles west of the I-64 / I-295 intersection.
This is an outdoor location with low-stress stalling for the alpacas in private, covered, wood-slatted 10' X 10' stalling in one of six barns. The ground is all natural - gravel inside the barn so it should drain well and be a really healthy show environment.
Come join us at the Virginia Alpaca Owners & Breeders first show!
