The Virginia Classic
www.llamalife.com/classic/
Lexington, Virginia
Sue attended The Virginia Classic this year as Show Superintendent so there really wasn't much of an opportunity for showing! We did arrange to bring Nottingham Hollow's Archer and had our friend Veronica Dolpp show him in the Yearling Fawn Huacaya class where he took 4th place in a class of six. There were a total of 377 alpacas entered in the show this year so it was a pretty busy weekend!

4th Annual Shearing Day at Nottingham Hollow!
On April 1st we had our new crias and females shorn at nearby Wildwood Alpacas by Darren Kennedy who is a professional shearer out of New Zealand. We like to have the crias professionally shorn for the first time. They will be nicely grown out in time for the fall shows! It made sense this year to treat their dams to shearing at the same time since we needed to bring them with us due to nursing.
On April 20th, a Friday, we will be shearing our males here at Nottingham Hollow. Dawn, from Mada Vemi Alpacas will be doing the shearing. She's coming fresh from a shearing clinic and we know she will do a great job! The Sheriff's fleece has already been sold and we are hoping we will get some good yarn from the other fleeces - especially from Friar Tuck's since his previous fleece took first place in the VAOBA Alpaca Expo last November.

Alpacas in the Renaissance you ask? Click here for "our" story!
"Discover the magic in the age of chivalry and romance as the Renaissance comes to life once again in Virginia. The Queen's Progress offers the rare opportunity to escape from your daily routine and step back in time by visiting a charming English country village. Frolic among nobles and fools, merchants and peasants, minstrels and dancers. Join artisans, craftspeople, and food merchants in a day overflowing with fun and history.
"Poppet's Glade offers a special world for children. Each afternoon, every child can receive a royal greeting after the Queen arrives into the village. There are arts and crafts, puppetry, and participation in interactive fairy tales for the thrill of being on stage. Children will love playing historical games such as 9 Man's Morris and Pell Mell. Or, they can even be knighted by Queen Elizabeth herself!"
